Session 6 - EPICT - What's it all about?

14:00 : 20mins

Summary

EPICT (the European Pedagogical ICT Licence) is an attempt to create a comprehensive international standard for the continued professional development of teachers in the pedagogical use of ICT in education.

Currently it is probably the only CPD concept for teachers focused on the pedagogical integration of ICT that has been adopted by organisations in a number of widely different countries including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and the UK.

The course concept was developed in 1999 by the Danish Ministry of Education. The intention was to set up a comprehensive, national course concept to ensure that all teachers had the skills and competencies necessary to integrate ICT in the classroom, as they were required to do according to national curricula.

So far, the course has had around 60,000 Danish teachers participating (more than 66%), and independent studies have documented its impact. The concept proved to be robust, scalable and adaptable and was later developed into an international version that can be localized and adapted to specific national requirements. In Denmark and other countries the concept has also been integrated in initial teacher training. See www.epict.org.

This flex session provided particpants with an overview of the international standard.
